The first of what will hopefully be many omakase-style releases, where customers "leave it up to the chef."
Omakase-style mini group-buy, limited to 25 raffle-allocated spots.Designed entirely in secret, the keyboard's identity remained hidden until customers received their units. The only clue was the project name: "Dioscuri".
THE MYTH
In Greek mythology, the Dioscuri were the twin brothers Castor and Pollux, bound by an unbreakable bond despite one being mortal and the other immortal. When Castor died, Pollux chose to share his immortality rather than live without his brother, and Zeus placed them together among the stars as the constellation Gemini. Their story endures as a symbol of devotion, sacrifice, and a bond that transcends mortality.
THE EXPERIMENT
The sale format began as an experiment in trust. At the time, I found the design process itself far more rewarding than the endless cycle of public feedback, so I often worked in secret and only shared projects once they were fully formed. Through this project I wanted to push that concept to its limit: an omakase-style keyboard where customers would know nothing beyond the name and price, placing their faith entirely in the designer's vision. Nearly 100 people entered the raffle for one of 25 available units, a show of trust that remains one of the aspects of the project I am most proud of.
THE DESIGN
The name Dioscuri comes from the aforementioned twin brothers Castor and Pollux of Greek mythology. Their story of two individuals becoming one inspired the split keyboard format, with each half representing a brother's individual identity. The outer weights divide the Gemini constellation between the two halves, while a USB-C cable physically joins them together, echoing the myth that ultimately placed the twins side by side among the stars. What began as an abstract story gradually found its way into a physical object, and the concept seemed to fit the format naturally from the very beginning.
